Kids' Fun Ruined When Easter Egg Hunt Is Canceled Due To Aggressive Parents
Tiny consumers across the country get amped up every year to run every which way, in search of Easter eggs and candy hidden in parks, on lawns and in backyards. But an Easter event that usually hosts hundreds of kids in Colorado has called off the hunt this year because parents were too aggressive last year.
The Associated Press (via NPR) says last year, gung ho parents in Colorado Springs jumped a rope set up to keep adults out, swarmed the tiny park where the hunt is held and ended the fun speedily. Some kids didn’t get even one egg.
Organizers say the event has outgrown being a neighborhood event, and instead turned into just another instances where parents can’t let their children do something on their own.
“They couldn’t resist getting over the rope to help their kids,” said Ron Alsop, a former Wall Street Journal reporter and author of The Trophy Kids Grow Up, which examines the “millennial children” generation.
“That’s the perfect metaphor for millennial children. They (parents) can’t stay out of their children’s lives. They don’t give their children enough chances to learn from hard knocks, mistakes.”
Again, trying to box out other parents and kids just to give your child an edge over the competition isn’t really what an Easter egg hunt should be about. The Easter Bunny is probably very disappointed in you for ruining the fun.
