Part Of T-Mobile Cell Phone Tower Disguised As A Palm Tree Impales Man's Car

The sky was falling in El Paso, or at least that’s how it felt for one man when a metal palm frond fell from a T-Mobile cell tower disguised as a tree, and sliced into his vehicle. Now might be a good time to mention that it’s common practice to hide ugly cell towers in such a way. But still, that’s one dangerous palm tree.

The man suffered cuts and scratches on his face, after the metallic piece hit his car’s windshield and he slammed on the brakes.

“I truly though somebody had hit me,” he told local KVIA News. The branch was reportedly inches from his neck. “It hit me in the face and I took out a rag to clean up and realized I had glass all over me.”

T-Mobile hasn’t answered any specific questions yet, but did say that the tree received new fronds in 2010 and was inspected in March 2011. They say the palm frond that fell broke in the middle and not where it was connected to the tower, as if that makes any difference to the guy who got hit with it.

*Thanks for the tip, Doug!
