If you have an iPod nano sold between Sep ’05 and Dec ’06, you could be eligible for a replacement under a new worldwide recall issued by Apple to deal with battery heating issues.
Apple said that “the battery in the iPod nano (1st generation) may overheat and pose a safety risk.” They blamed, “a single battery supplier that produced batteries with a manufacturing defect.”
“While the possibility of an incident is rare, the likelihood increases as the battery ages,” Apple said on their website.
Unlike later models, first generation iPod nanos have a black or white front and a silver metal back, instead of having both a metal front and back. Replacements can be ordered through this claim form.
