Atlantic Southeast Airlines Fined $425K For Not Inspecting Planes Following Lightning Strikes

Atlantic Southeast Airlines, a regional carrier for Delta, was fined $425,000 by the Federal Aviation Administration for neglecting to inspect two of its jets after they were struck by lightning in July 2008. The FAA says the airline operated 13 flights before the planes were inspected.

NYC Aviation reports the airline has 30 days to formally respond to the FAA’s charges.

Says a spokesman from the airline:

“Safety is our top priority at Atlantic Southeast and we continue to work closely with the FAA to ensure the safety and compliance of our entire fleet. We worked with the FAA to immediately address this concern through FAA-approved steps when it was raised in 2008, and the aircraft were returned to service.”
