Know An Excellent Consumer Advocate? Nominate Them For Consumer Reports' Excellence Award

While the forces of greed and incompetence work tirelessly to beat consumers into submission, there are a number of people out there determined to fight back in the name of the everyday shopper. So as part of the magazine’s 75th anniversary, our older siblings at Consumer Reports are looking for an individual or small non-profit group to honor with its Excellence In Consumer Advocacy Award.

In order to make sure the nominee pool is as deep as possible, CR is asking for your assistance. So if you know of anyone you think merits consideration — and the $25,000 prize — you can nominate them here.

Nominees will be accepted up until 11:59 pm ET on July 13, 2011. CR will then select five finalists for an online vote that will run from Aug. 15 to Aug. 22. The winner will be announced in the fall at Consumer Reports’ 75th anniversary event.

Full details are available in the FAQ and official rules, but there a few conditions worth mentioning here. Nominated individuals must be U.S. citizens and at least 18 years of age. Nominated groups must be non-profits with tax-exempt status and an annual operating budget of $100,000 or less.
