MLB Seizes Control Of L.A. Dodgers

With the Mets allegedly involved in Bernie Madoff’s Ponzi scheme and near league-wide attendance problems, the last thing Major League Baseball needed was yet another headache. But that’s exactly what it got when the Dodgers front office imploded, forcing the league to step in and take control of the team for the time being.

Among the myriad problems facing the team, owner Frank McCourt had to take out a $30 million personal loan to meet payroll and a San Francisco Giants fan was left comatose following an attack in the Dodger Stadium parking lot last month. MLB will control all business operations and likely end up putting the team up for sale.

Commissioner Bud Selig tells the Los Angeles Times it was a move he was forced to make:

“I have taken this action because of my deep concerns regarding the finances and operations of the Dodgers and to protect the best interests of the club, its great fans and all of Major League Baseball. My office will continue its thorough investigation into the operations and finances of the Dodgers and related entities during the period of Mr. McCourt’s ownership.”

What do you think the MLB and Dodgers need to do to turn things around?
