Customer Calls Pizza Hut To Place Order, Hears Robbery-In-Progress Instead
Imagine you’re calling up your local pizza joint to place an order but instead of explaining which half of the pizza gets the mushrooms, you hear a man in the background demanding money from the cash register.
That’s exactly what happened to a customer who called a Pizza Hut in Palm Springs, CA, on Tuesday night.
Police say they received a call at 6:37 p.m. on Tuesday from someone who had been alarmed by what they’d heard when trying to order a pizza.
“Someone was calling in a pizza, and they heard the suspect in the background calling for the money,” a Palm Springs police rep said.
The phone customer’s suspicions were confirmed seconds later when someone inside the Pizza Hut managed to dial 911 without being detected.
No one was injured in the robbery, in which the lone thief only stole money from the register and not from any customers.
Unfortunately, the robber worked too smoothly and efficiently for police to arrive in time to stop the crime.
“He was even smug when he left and told everybody, ‘Have a nice day now,'” recalled one witness.
