Even More Tylenol Recalled Over Musty Odor
Johnson & Johnson’s 2010 continues to stink — literally — as the company announced yet another recall of its Tylenol painkiller over complaints of a musty/moldy odor.
The company has already recalled several million bottles of Tylenol and other products for the same reason. This latest recall adds another 128,000 bottles to that total.
This particular recall is for the Tylenol 8-Hour pills pictures above.
Lot #: BCM155
NDC Code #: 50580-297-50
UPC #: 3 0045-0297-51 8
The UPC is on the barcode as pictured above. The lot # is stamped on the bottom of the bottle.
As has been suspected in the previous recalls, the chemical known as 2,4,6-tribromoanisole is being fingered as the culprit. It is produced when fungi break down a commonly used fungicide called 2,4,6-tribromophenol. It is believed that the contamination happened after the fungicide was used to treat wooden warehouse pallets.
This is also believed to be the cause of the musty odor in the recent Lipitor recall.
Consumers who purchased product from the lot included in this recall should stop using the product and contact McNeil Consumer Healthcare, either at www.tylenol.com or by calling 1-888-222-6036 (Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern Time, and Saturday-Sunday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern Time) for instructions about receiving a refund or product coupon.
