Chicago's 28-Year-Old Handgun Ban Struck Down By Supreme Court

The Supreme Court has decided 5-4 in favor of firearm owners, ruling that Chicago’s 28-year-old gun ban is unconstitutional.

“It cannot be doubted that the right to bear arms was regarded as a substantive guarantee, not a prohibition that could be ignored so long as states legislated in an evenhanded manner,” wrote Justice Samuel Alito.

The justices also stated, however, that states did have the right to impose “reasonable” gun-control measures.
