UPDATE: Campusfood's "Service Fees" Disappear …Or Do They?
Remember the new “service charge” imposed on orders by Campusfood.com that we posted about earlier this week? Well, um, you people must have complained. Because it’s gone. UPDATE: From the Web site. And the checkout screens. But they’re still charging it.
My friend AJ called the Dotmenu customer service center and asked what happened to the fee, and received the vague answer, “It depends on the restaurant.” Here in Albany, though, it’s gone. I checked dozens restaurants in three different states, and none still had the service fee.
I felt like pizza, so I ordered two slices from the place down the street, then headed out to pick them up. I saw no sign of the service charge on the order screen or on the checkout screen, and it wasn’t until I got home and saw this comment from Jacqueline that I checked my e-mail receipt. (I know, bad consumer.) Here’s what I saw:
—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-
SUBTOTAL: $4.00
TAX: $0.33
SERVICE CHARGE: $0.75
—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—–
TOTAL: $5.08
—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—–
GRAND TOTAL: $5.08
—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—–
CAMPUSFOOD CASH APPLIED: $0.50BALANCE APPLIED ON VISA: $4.58

So, people complain about the fee, so they hide it and just charge it on top of orders and hope people don’t check their receipts? Not so fast.
