Can I Get This Cheaper Online? Call Frucall

Have you ever seen something in a store and fretted over impulse-buying, wondering whether you could get it cheaper online? A new service, Frucall, aims to answer that question for you.

• Call 1-888-DO-FRUCALL.
• Enter the product barcode.
• Discover if you can get the item for less through one of Frucall’s partner sites.

If you register with their site, there’s more features available, like saving items for later purchase, and leaving yourself voice notes

We gave it a shot. It found us a copy of the Great Gatsby for $3 used or $9 new (shipping included). It didn’t return results for our olive oil or a pack of computer paper. Judging from the items on its partner sites, it should do fine for home items and electronics.

You can also opt to receive the prices by text message. Conceivably, you might be able to show these to the store and ask them to price match on the spot.

ummm… ISBN stands for International Standard Book Number, so maybe that’s why it only worked on the book?

Stupid busy ugly logo. In case “call” isn’t clear enough, they portray a cell phone. In case you miss it, its at an angle. If that isn’t clear enough, they show its antenna vibrating or boadcasting. Too bad there is no “s” in the name to make a snappy $.

Ain’t nothin wrong with a little verbal-visual redundancy in your logo, but usually one or two devices is enough… and they get a little too literal with the symbolism for my tastes.

Oh lord, just what I need — more cell phone calls and multitasking while I’m shopping! No thanks. Big-ticket items we always research online before we head out to brick/mortar stores anyway, and the less pricey stuff I’d rather just buy on the spot without a lot of dithering.

  5. I actually met people from Frucall at The ‘Digital Life’ expo in New York as they launched and wrote about them and 3 other services in ‘4 Digital Life Services worth trying’on ‘Serge the Concierge’ on October 17

    Happy Thanksgiving

AWESOME. You know, this is a service that I wish that one of the big boys came up with, but didn’t.
