Will The Real Guy Kewney Please Stand Up?
Guy Kewney, editor of newswireless.net, describes himself on his blog as “fair-haired, blue-eyed, prominent-nosed, and with the sort of pale skin that makes my dermatologist wince each time I complain about an itchy mole.” That’s him to the right, looking like every philosophy professor we ever had.
However, when the BBC decided to interview Guy about the recent Apple Computers vs. Apple Records judgment, the man they lugged out of reception was not Guy Kewney the Thoroughly-Respectable-in-Tweed Honky, but Guy Kewney, the French-Algerian taxi driver. Who then proceeded (after an initial moment of bug-eyed panic when he realized what had happened) to give the greatest bullshitting performance of his life, hilariously bumbling his way through an interview on a subject he knew nothing about. “”I am very surprised to see…this verdict to come on me because I was not expecting that. When I came they told me something else and I am coming. So a big surprise anyway.” Totally!
The real Guy Kewney doesn’t see the humor in it and mumbles darkly about suing BBC for their incredible mistake. Humbug! But honestly, we’re perfectly tickled to see his reputation smeared it there’s a chance it’ll lead to his ebony doppelganger eventually getting his own call-in show.
Really, what matters is that the BBC doesn’t look stupid… [Newswireless.net]
