Our apologies to the readers who want us Consumerist editors to taste-test things: we’re all currently on a strict diet of only Doritos Loco Tacos and Mexican Coke. So we’re sadly unable to run to Target and get a package of their exclusive candy corn flavored Oreos today. Our friends over at Foodbeast got their hands on a package of the seasonal treats last week, though, and their verdict is in. If you like candy corn, you’ll be disappointed. If you like sugar; well, then you’re probably living in the right country, and these cookies are for you.
If you want to save your money, just dig a can of premade sugary cake frosting out of the pantry and eat a few spoonfuls of that instead. The flavor will be about the same, Foodbeast tells us.
How do they taste? Like frosting. If no one had told you they were candy corn flavor, chances are you would have never guessed it was themed after the popular Halloween candy. There’s a slight hint of candy corn flavoring, but it’s almost indistinguishable from birthday cake frosting flavors.
No honey? Guess I’ll just go cry into my Cool Ranch taco.
Candy Corn Oreos Are a Real Thing, Here is What They Look Like [Foodbeast]

I thought the flavour of candy corn WAS sugar. (with a healthy dose of grainy, powdery mouthfeel…)
Nope, it’s corn syrup. That’s why Oreos (sweetened with sugar) need to be artificially flavored to have a candy corn flavor.
The difference between “real” sugar and high fructose corn syrup is much like the difference between Bud Lite and Everclear. Both contain alcohol, but if you drink a pint of each, you will NOT experience the same results.
I confirm these taste like the frosting on cupcakes.
Which is good, because candy corn is nasty.
Exaaaaactly. If they called these things “Frosting Oreos” I’d have bought them already.
Candy corn has been out of production for years. Just ask Lewis Black.
I’m pretty sure that would be Corn Sugar, aka HFCS, not real (cane) sugar.
Corn Sugar Candy Corn
Corn Sugar is the properly registered name for dextrose. The FDA regulates such branding and labeling issues. You can’t sell corn syrup labeled as corn sugar any more than you can sell sea salt labeled as corn sugar sugar.
Edit button, PLEASE.
Dentists everywhere must be rejoicing.
They are going crazy with the flavored Oreos. I remember peanutbutter stuff chocolate Oreos… spring time Oreos… now I see berry ice cream stuff Oreos. But I did like the vanilla wafer/chocolate stuff ones i tried this weekend.
I might try the mint stuff ones… ohgodsomebodystopme
Do NOT try the mint cookies. They are sugarcrack. And the grocery store WILL be out of them every time you try to buy more. Leave me here, save yourself!
Oh god, those mint ones are AMAZING.
I kinda thought it was only a cosmetic thing. It looks pretty and different, but the taste is the same.
It’s not authentic, unless there is a hint of wax.
White Fudge Oreos are dangerous. I’ve never been able to stop eating prior to tummyache onset.
Oh, the candy corn ninjas will be so disappointed.
Is it wrong of me to imagine candycorn-chucks when you said that?
I can’t believe that anyone would buy a cookie that claims to taste like the worst Halloween candy of all time.
YOU TAKE THAT BACK! Candy corn is the food of the gods.
What’s with this birthday-cake flavor in everything now? I don’t like it. The other day I tasted it in Blue Bunny Turtle Sundae ice cream. I can’t even figure out what the flavor is.
there is also candy corn m&m’s too. i like using the mint M&M’s in cookies. havent tried the CC ones
This actually makes me more likely (but not very likely) to buy it, as I don’t like candy corn.
I’m surprised they have never tried something like fruit flavors. Other Oreo flavor ideas:
Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough
Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup
Caramel
Nougat
Caramel AND nougat (in other words, Milky Way)
Or we could combine all of the above with cola flavoring and call it “Bloomberg’s Head Explodes Oreos.”
I didn’t know about the cool ranch Doritos Locos taco!! SWEEEEEEET!!!!!!
What kind of frosting? I want oreos with buttercream frosting… yum
I went to my local Target on Monday to pick up a pack of these. They told me that they were getting their shipment of them in on Wednesday. My husband, being a huge candy corn fan, was disappointed, but after reading this, he may not have much to complain about…
