FedEx Says It's Hiring 20,000 Extra Holiday Workers

In an attempt to not ruin your holiday season with late presents, FedEx is gearing up for the seasonal outpouring of gifts going around the world by adding 20,000 jobs just to deal with the rush.

CNN cites FedEx as saying December 12 will be their all-time biggest day ever in company history, with more than 17 million packages going every which way that day around the world. That’s peanuts in the grand scheme of things, which is an estimaged 260 million shipments between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

With a 12 percent gain over shipments from last year, all those gifts going out, plus added jobs, is a good sign for the economy.

“As e-commerce continues to grow and demand increases with more customers shopping and conducting their business online, FedEx… is poised to handle the increase in shipments,” FedEx CEO Frederick Smith said in a statement.

Other companies like Macy’s, Toys “R” Us and Best Buy have announced seasonal staff additions, for a total of an expected 480,000 to 500,000 jobs overall in retail.
