Black+Decker Recalls 560K Electric Blowers
You might still be hiding from the heat, but autumn is just around the corner, which means raking, blowing, and bagging leaves. However, if you plan on pushing leaves around with a Black + Decker electric blower, you might want to check that it’s not among the 560,000 blowers that have been recalled following multiple injury reports.
Black & Decker warned owners of 560,000 three-in-one Black+Decker Electric Blower-Vaccum-Mulchers to immediately stop using the tools because of a potential injury hazard.
According to a notice posted with the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the fan cover of the device can unlatch unexpectedly, posing a laceration risk.
So far, Black+Decker says it is aware of four reports of the fan covers coming off resulting in finger lacerations.
The recall covers Black+Decker Electric Blower-Vaccum-Mulchers Type 1 with the model numbers BV5600, BV6000, and BV6600.
They are orange with black accents, a black fan cover and a two-speed switch. They were sold with a blower tube, a vacuum tube and a reusable collection bag. Model BV6600 also has a rake attachment.
The products were sold for $70 to $90 at Lowes, other retail stores, and Amazon.com from May 2013 to Sept. 2016.
Black+Decker cautions owners to immediately stop using the product and call the company for a free repair kit, which includes a replacement fan cover.
