Dynamic Airways Plane Catches Fire On Florida Runway
Seven people were injured and three taken to the hospital after an airplane caught fire on a Florida runway Thursday afternoon. The incident marks the third time in two months that an aircraft has caught fire before takeoff.
A Dynamic Airways jet was taxiing for takeoff at the Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport en route to Venezuela this afternoon when the left engine caught fire, Local 10 News reports.
A spokesperson for the airport says the fire was quickly put out by the facility’s fire crews and the 101 passengers onboard were transported by bus to another terminal. Three were then taken to the hospital.
The The Federal Aviation Administration tells The Broward Palm Beach News Times that a the fire was likely the result of leaking fuel.
Air traffic control radio transmissions of the incident seems to confirm that theory:
“There’s fuel leaking out of the left engine,” an air traffic controller is heard saying. “Engine’s on fire! Engine’s on fire!”
Operations at the airport have been suspended by the FAA, and passengers are advised to call their airline about flight status.
Dynamic Airways, based in Greensboro, NC, was founded in 2010.
