Hobbit Hack Makes Toy Swords Glow Blue When Unsecured WiFi Orc Is Near
The Daily Dot reports on a guide from Spark.io that enables anyone with a plastic Sting — the sword used by Bilbo Baggins that glows blue when orcs are nearby — can bend it to a new purpose of finding WiFi.
The hack involves taking apart the toy and installing a little WiFi development kit, which should work as long as the toy has lights and sound.
An added feature of the hack gives WiFi users yet another great reason to secure their home networks — when those wielding the swords detect unencrypted networks, they can press a button and join the network, simultaneously sending a message to the network owner, “{YOUR WI-FI NETWORK} has been vanquished!”
