General Motors Recalls 316,000 Vehicles For Potential Headlight Failures

Imagine driving down a dark country road where there’s some traffic in the other direction, so you don’t have your high beams on. Suddenly, your headlights cut out. Wait! What? That’s the scenario posed in the latest General Motors recall, which concerns 317,357 vehicles sold in North America with model years between 2006 and 2008.

Affected cars and SUVs are:

Buick LaCrosse (model years 2006-2009)
Chevrolet Trailblazer (2006-2007)
GMC Envoy (2006-2007)
Buick Rainier (2006-2007)
Saab 9-7X (2006-2008)
Isuzu Ascender (2006-2008)

Most of these vehicles were sold and registered in the United States (273,182) and the rest were sold in Mexico and Canada. “If the headlamp driver module is not operating correctly, the low-beam headlamps and daytime running lamps could intermittently or permanently fail to illuminate,” the company explained in a statement to Reuters. Daytime running lamps are a fancy word for “Canadian cars have to have their headlights on whenever the car is running,” and some cars sold in the U.S. also have this feature. Other lights on the vehicle aren’t affected by this defect.

This makes a grand total of 30.4 million vehicles that General Motors has recalled worldwide during Recallapalooza.
