There are plenty of Boston Red Sox fans who would just love the opportunity to see their team win the World Series at home in tonight’s Game 6 against the St. Louis Cardinals. But a once-in-a-lifetime chance also comes with a once-in-a-lifetime price: The price fans could pay to watch tonight’s game at Fenway Park is the most expensive local ticket in Boston’s history.

Yesterday the average list price on the resale market for a ticket to the game hit $1,860, according to ticket tracking company TiqIQ, reports ESPN.com.

As of right now on StubHub.com, the cheapest ticket is going for $769 — and that’s a standing room only area. And then there are the folks who shelled out $24,000 for two seats near the dugout in the front row. Dollar signs flashing in your eyes yet?

But because the Red Sox haven’t clinched a World Series at Fenway since 1918 against the Chicago Cubs, money is no issue for lots of fans.

“There was this type of excitement in 2004 for the Red Sox home games because people thought it would never come again,” Jim Holzman of Ace Ticket, a Boston-based brokerage explains.

In 2004 and 2007, the Red Sox won the World Series on the road. “People want to see them win it here,” Holzman said. “That’s what has made this the biggest ticket we’ve ever seen. It’s the Super Bowl except people don’t have to pay $1,000 for a hotel and $2,000 for airfare.”
