Over 1 Million GE Dishwashers Recalled As Flames Shouldn't Be Part Of The Rinse Cycle

If it’s too hot, sure, you need to get out of the kitchen. But it shouldn’t be literally too hot because your dishwasher is on fire. To that end, GE is recalling around 1.3 million of its dishwashers due to a possibility for the heating elements to fail and cause fires.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission said today that the voluntary recall includes GE, GE Adora, GE Eterna, GE Profile and Hotpoint dishwashers (Update: Click here for a list of recalled dishwashers). The company has had seven has received seven reports of fires, three of which caused extensive property damage. No on has been injured, or at least, the CPSC hasn’t received any reports to that effect.

The dishwashers affected in the recall were sold between March 2006 into August 2009 for $350 to $850, in a variety of colors and finishes.

If you believe you have one of these appliances, stop using it and disconnect it from the electric supply by shutting off the fuse or circuit breaker it’s connected to. Don’t bring them back to the store where you bought it, either (which would be pretty difficult for many people) — GE is going to repair them for free or offer rebates toward new ones if they can’t be fixed.
