Even Knowing The Winningest Lottery Numbers Won't Help You Score The Mega Millions
Sure, there are numbers that have been drawn a few times in the Mega Millions lottery, and it’s fun to know what they are and dream about the dollar sign-shaped pool you’d put in your yard, but odds are, you’re probably not going to win. But hey, dare to dream, and trying out some common numbers can’t hurt.
CBS Chicago cites lottostrategies.com, which looked at the winningest numbers from the last 50 drawings ahead of tonight’s huge jackpot payoff, which has reportedly grown to around $640 million. Some of the hottest digits have been: 4, 29, 36 and 48. The number 29 is one of the most common, at nine drawings, whereas the other come in at eight times. Then there’s 3, 24, 26, 30, 35 and 51 at seven times.
Going all the way back to June 2005, the most common numbers are: 12, 27, 31, 36, 48, 51, 52 and 53. The four most-pulled Mega Ball numbers since 2005 are 16, 9, 7 and 35.
Of course, even knowing all of this doesn’t help your odds. You’ve got a 1 in 175,711,536 chance in winning. In comparison, the odds of getting struck by lightning are about 1 in 280,000. So in this case, the odds are ever NOT in your favor. But hey, if you do win, don’t forget to protect yourself and your winnings from greedy pals (and buy me a pony/unicorn/talking koala friend to go on adventures with).
