300,000 Dodge & Chrysler Minivans Recalled For Possible Airbag Problems

Chrysler has recalled 300,000 model year 2008 Dodge Caravan, Chrsyler Grand Voyager and Town & Country minivans in the U.S. over concerns that the airbags on these vehicles could inadvertently deploy, which is hilarious in slapstick comedies but potentially deadly in real life.

From the Detroit News:

Chrysler said a leak from the air conditioning and heating system may cause the Occupant Restraint Control module to fail, which could led to a inadvertent airbag deployment without warning or illumination of the airbag warning light.

Owners of affected vehicles will begin receiving recall letters in September. Dealers will replace airbag modules free of charge.

The car maker says it knows of no confirmed incidents of premature airbag deployment, but “we believe it is in the best interest of our customers to replace these modules to ensure the proper functionality of the minivan’s advanced safety system.”
