It’s not unusual to find it tough to talk normally after oral surgery, but an Oregon tax consultant who had several teeth removed and replaced with dentures was stuck with a strange twist — an accent that folks describe as British, Swedish or Eastern European.

The AP reports the woman, who has never been to Europe, is still talking that way more than 18 months after the surgery. The woman’s dentist told her the accent would go away as she got used to her new teeth, but it stuck around. The woman is now convinced that she’s suffering a little understood or diagnosed condition called Foreign Accent Syndrome, which is usually linked to brain trauma, which she says she doesn’t believe she’s suffered.
