Report: "Exploding" Droid 2 Might Not Have Exploded After All
Last week, the internet was abuzz with the story of a man who claimed his Droid 2 shattered when he held it up to his ear. However, a new report claims the phone was already damaged before the incident.
An anonymous Motorola source tells GearLog.com that this particular Droid 2 had been dropped and the owner didn’t notice the glass was cracked until after he put the phone to his ear and cut himself.
The injured man says he heard a “pop” and then noticed blood trickling down his face.
However, GearLog’s source counters:
The only things that could explode in a phone would have resulted in a phone that did not work, yet this phone worked. And there was no explosive damage to the device (things inside blown outward, etc).
Immediately after the incident, Motorola told Consumerist, “Motorola’s priority is, and always has been the safety of our customers, and all Motorola products are designed, manufactured and tested to meet or exceed international and local standards for consumer safety. We will reach out to the consumer and investigate this thoroughly.”
