U.S. Airways CEO Says His Company Is Happy Being Single
While merger and consolidation is the name of the game for many in the airline industry these days, the CEO of U.S. Airways says he’s happy with having dinner for one right now.
Speaking at a shareholder meeting in Washington this morning, U.S. Airways Chairman and CEO Doug Parker was asked if the airline were indeed on the hunt for a mate. Parker put the kibosh on any such hopes by replying, “We are purely happy with our stand-alone status.”
Of course, merger talk is big right now following on the heels of the announcement that Continental Airlines and United Airlines will soon be exchanging vows. And it wasn’t so long ago that Delta and Northwest said their “I do’s.”
Do you think U.S. Airways can survive without combining its routes and assets with another, perhaps larger, carrier?
