Man Uses “I Wasn’t Robbing Anyone, Cashier Just Handed The Cash To Me” Defense

We’ve all had that weird experience when suddenly, the cashier will just force you to take a bunch of the cash from the cash register. And then, because that’s so weird, the instinct is to just flee, right? Wait, that’s not normal, you say? Weird. But that’s what one guy accused of robbing a local grocery store is claiming.

According to Albuquerque police, a cashier at the store said a man told her had a gun, and would shoot her if she didn’t hand over cash, reports KRQE News.

But that’s not at all what happened, the man claims — she just decided to hand him the money after he asked her for change and happened to scratch his stomach. See, she must’ve thought he was robbing her at gunpoint, but he wasn’t, he says.

As for why he fled with the $1,600 and went to a nearby gas station to lie in the bed of a pickup, which is where police found him, he told cops that anyone given lots of cash would take it and run.

That defense is apparently not enough to convince authorities, who are holding him on $10,000 bond.
