As long as there are planes and people, the mile-high club is going to exist despite the best efforts of flight attendants. But while many choose to act out this rite of plane passage, as it were, in the plane’s lavatories, one couple apparently decided that dodging under a blanket would do just fine. They’ve both just pleaded guilty to a federal misdemeanor as a result.
A vintner and a salon technician were fined $250 after pleading guilty in abstentia in U.S. District Court in Las Vegas to a charge of disorderly conduct. The original charge was a federal misdemeanor crime of lewd, indecent and obscene acts on an airplane.
Back in June the twosome were on their way to Sin City on an Allegiant Air flight, when passengers said they saw the man exposing himself and twice joining his partner in oral sex and other acts despite warnings from flight attendants, reports the Mail Tribune.
One passenger complained to an attendant saying “this is not the sex education I wanted to give my teenage sons,” according to an FBI affidavit.
An attendant asked the two to stop and they did — during the drink and snack service, but then repeated the sex acts before landing, says the criminal complaint.
In a statement to the Mail Tribune, the man said he pleaded guilty to put the case behind him and move on but that if it’d gone to trial, he would’ve been exonerated.
The man apologized to anyone who’d been hurt and offended by his actions.
“My actions were clearly inappropriate and inconsiderate,” he wrote. “Seeing and hearing the level of venom directed at these people has been hardest for me and I am truly sorry for that.”
“I have made many mistakes in my life, none greater than this one,” he says in the statement. “I have lost my job, my reputation and damaged the legacy I had worked 10 years to nurture and grow. I will learn from this and move on to the next chapter in my life.”
