We’re Calling “Snowdening” A Thing: Cancun Police Can’t Stop Woman From Living In Airport

We can’t all be alleged leakers of super secret National Security Agency information, but one woman isn’t letting that stop her from pulling an Edward Snowden and setting up in a transit zone: Police in Mexico say a woman arrived on a flight from the United States last week and since then just hasn’t left the Cancun airport.

While yours truly also once vowed never to leave Cancun because of an overwhelming vacation crush (you know who you are, you Patrick Swayze, you) officials aren’t exactly sure why the woman isn’t leaving the resort city, reports News.com.au.

She can’t be arrested, because she hasn’t committed any kind of crime — so police are just sort of watching her go about her daily business at the airport.

Airport workers say the 45-year-old woman spends her time wandering through the terminals, sleeping on the floor and taking out money from an ATM to buy food at the airport’s restaurants.

“She looks like a regular passenger at first glance, people don’t look at her, but we have seen her every day … we are not doctors, but it’s obvious that she has problems, some of my co-workers tried to speak with her, but at times it seems as if she loses it,” an airline worker told the news site.

Cops say she has a Mexican passport, but despite knowing her name and date of birth haven’t been able to track down her family yet.
