Some Supermarkets Don't Want To Touch Ben & Jerry's Schweddy Balls
Back when Ben & Jerry’s announced its new Schweddy Balls flavor of ice cream, you might have guessed that some stores might balk at selling the product. And if so, then your prediction was spot-on.
Even though Ben & Jerry’s says that Schweddy Balls is their most popular limited-edition flavor, it’s only available at about 30% of stores that carry B&J’s ice cream.
The Associated Press asked some of the supermarket chains that don’t carry the flavor if it has anything to do with the protest by the not-at-all-reactionary American Family Association group that calls itself One Million Moms, but none of the stores would comment on that topic.
A rep for Stop & Shop did tell the AP, “We haven’t received any complaints that we’re not carrying that flavor. However, if we do get feedback from customers that they want it, we’ll certainly revisit the decision.”
“Yes, some supermarket chains decided not to carry Schweddy Balls,” a Ben & Jerry’s exec admits. “That is true, possibly because they found the name too irreverent. We respect their decision.”
