Spa Offers Gift Certificate To Stanley Cup Rioters Who Turn Themselves In To Police

It’s been several months since the Boston Bruins swept the Vancouver Canucks to win the Stanley Cup, triggering riots in the Canadian metropolis. But with a new hockey season just begun, one Vancouver spa thinks it’s time that those involved in the riots soothe their souls by fessing up to the police, and soothe their sore muscles with a massage.

To qualify for a $50 “Calm Down & De-Stress” gift certificate, former rioters need to show photo ID, describe how they were involved in the riot (i.e., looting, arson, etc.), then apply their fingerprints to the certificate before turning themselves in to the Vancouver Police. Only after the police provide the rioter with an official arrest form will their gift certificate be activated.

Explains the Eccotique spa:

This is a win/win situation for the alleged rioters and the VPD. Suspects can finally come to terms with their conscience, while the police can see justice is done. These people obviously had a lot of pent up anger during all the chaos. We think they need to learn how to calm down and relax, which fits perfectly with our spa offerings.

This is not a reward for the culprits. We want to see as many charges laid as possible with this. We’re happy to donate the $50 gift certificates if it identifies the suspects.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. I know that I was born without a conscience, but I can’t imagine a single person taking them up on this offer. This is just a ridiculous way (but not stupid) of getting some publicity.

  2. SkokieGuy says:

You have to confess and be arrested to get a $50.00 spa certificate?

Brilliant marketing. Get’s lots of free PR with an offer that no one is going to actually take them up on.

And if someone does, I suppose getting arrested will delay someone’s ability to redeem the GC.

    • Rachacha says:

Certificate must be redeemed withing 30 days of presenting the proper arrest form…minimum jail term 6 months

  3. MrMagoo is usually sarcastic says:

So do they have to go through the entire police academy in order to turn themselves into police, or is there a shortcut in Canada?

  4. treebait says:

They didn’t sweep at all… The Canucks were leading the series at one point, and it went down to Game 7.

As a non-rioting Vancouverite and Canuck fan, I have to remind you to check your facts! :P

  5. Cosmo_Kramer says:

You mean “turn themselves in to police” not “turn themselves into police.”

  6. oldwiz65 says:

I’ve heard that some hockey fans are not that bright, but could any of them be that stupid?

    • Kestris says:

While yes, some hockey fans are this bad, not all of us are stupid like that.

The vast majority involved in the riots were not hockey fans, but were opportunists who saw the loss by the Canucks as the perfect time to ‘liberate’ some items and cause general mayhem.

    ITS A TRAP

    • McRib wants to know if you've been saved by the Holy Clown says:

Are we talking an Admiral Akbar trap or an ‘Get an axe’ evil dead kind of trap?

      • Wasp is like Requiem for a Dream without the cheery bits says:

It seems almost like a little bit of both. But it seems pretty obvious to me, so it hasn’t reached Ackbar level.

  8. dragonfire81 says:

Typically “swept” means one team wins all the game of a series. This series went 7 games so technically no one “swept” anybody.

  9. Tunnen says:

A lot of people here in town are not happy with this or the fact that no one has been charged yet…. Though the police claim they will put forward some charges before October 31.

As for the “swept” comment it went to game 7. Swept would of been 4-0 not 4-3.

Also, “swept” reminds me of a great saying someone posted on the Vancouver Riot Wall of Shame.

“Yesterday I was waving by flag, today I’m waving my broom.”

Uh the Bruins won the cup in game 7 – the Canucks lost….
