Yahoo Apologizes For Accidentally Blocking Protest Emails

Yahoo email users complained that the system blocked messages about a Wall Street protest, accusing the company of censorship. Via Twitter, Yahoo says that there was no intentional censorship and the blockage was due to an unintentional spam filter setting that has now been fixed.

Think Progress tracked the problem as it developed and cited Yahoo’s responses via Twitter, thanking the site for identifying the problem and warning that some users might see residual delays in being able to send messages that contain the phrase “occupywallst.org.”

Before Yahoo fixed the problem, it notified users that their messages were not sent and that “suspicious activity” had been detected on their accounts.
