Sprint Tells Employees Not To Discuss iPhone Rumors With Customers, Friends, Family

Among the many rumors and reports surrounding the inevitable release of the iPhone 5 is that the device will finally be made available to Sprint customers. With speculation building, Sprint has reportedly issued a memo to staffers instructing them how to respond to customer queries about the iPhone… with a “no comment.”

The folks at SprintFeed.com received what appears to be an e-mail from Sprint HQ to Sprint retailers, telling them how to deal with customers — or even anyone they might just happen to be chatting with — who want to know whether or not there is any truth the recent Wall Street Journal report that Sprint will get the Apple smartphone.

“If you’re asked by a customer or just talking to friends or family members, you need to avoid making any comment about the iPhone and simply state ‘no comment,'” reads the e-mail. “If you are asked a direct question by a customer about Sprint getting the iPhone, you can simply say, ‘Yes, I saw a few of those reports. I don’t have any information to share.'”

So is this the smoking gun proving that Sprint is indeed getting an iPhone? Well, no. But, ask editors of SprintFeed, “If the recent claims weren’t true, why not tell your employees that the claims are false or to advise customers that these are only rumors?”

If Sprint does get the iPhone, it will be interesting to see if the company retains its unlimited data plans or if — like current iPhone offerers AT&T and Verizon Wireless — it will eventually move to tiered data pricing.
