Taco Bell Plans Jimmy Dean Sausage Breakfasts

5848 views

A recent story in Nation's Restaurant News says that Taco Bell, yes Taco Bell, will soon be test marketing breakfast items featuring Jimmy Dean sausage in addition to other breakfasty brands like Seattle's Best, Dole, and Cinnabon.

They're also planning a campaign called the "Drive-Thru Diet" for January. They will, accordingly, be adding healthier menu items to go along with this promotion.

In any case, the addition of Jimmy Dean sausage to the test menu is an excuse for us to, once again, embed this awesome video. Warning: swear words.

Does taco bell even use pork on any of its menu now?

user-pic

I thought Taco Bell did the breakfast thing once a couple of years ago. As I recall It didn't last very long.

user-pic

Taco Bell... breakfast?

I don't know. It just seems strange.

user-pic

@MightyDwarf56: I think part of that had to do with them only selling the breakfast items after midnight.

I know a friend of mine complained about it to corporate, but got nowhere. She was running behind schedule, figured she'd grab a quick bite, and decided to try Taco Bell's breakfast items and was surprised when the cashier told her the breakfast menu was only available at night.

I could have had fun at her expense, acting like breakfast items being sold only at night was normal, but she's always been super nice to me. Plus, her husband could easily kick my ass.

user-pic

I just smile a little every time he says "sausage" and when he describes his little woman as "plump".

user-pic

@MightyDwarf56: Taco Bell pulls out a breakfast menu every few years. They did it in the early-to-mid 1990s, and they've been test-marketing breakfast in recent years. Here's more than you wanted to know about Taco Bell: [www.fundinguniverse.com]

user-pic

@Megladon: They have had items with bacon on the menu off and on for as long as I can remeber.

user-pic

@MooseOfReason: It seems strange, but look at Chick-fil-a. They have sausage burritos for breakfast, and they're pretty good. It's the one odd item on their menu, but... it works. Could work for Taco Bell.

user-pic

This is going to fail because, as we all [should] know, Bob Evans has the best sausage.

user-pic

Aw Meg you just made my shitty Tuesday morning.

user-pic

@squinko: Blasphemy. I haven't eaten red meat in like 8 years and even I know what's what.

user-pic

@squinko: But you can't feed a family on a Bob Evans saw-sige.

user-pic

@TinkishDelight: Your mind has clearly wasted away from the lack of red meat if you think that! ;)

user-pic

@John: The question still stands.@Preyfar: They also sell a sausage biscuit, and a ham biscuit. I guess the pig lobby isnt as strong as the cow lobby

user-pic

@MightyDwarf56: I remember trying the taco bell breakfasts a few years ago, they weren't that bad. I just hope there's more offerings than just burritos that are full of eggs and not much else because I am tired of breakfast burritos in general.

user-pic

But Lifehacker always tells me to make my own breakfast at home :(

user-pic

@MightyDwarf56: The one near my office in Reston VA has served breakfast for at least 4 or 5 years now. Unless they just recently stopped, I haven't been there in several months.

What i find more unusual is the Wendy's near my home that serves breakfast. That I've never seen before.

user-pic

@Megladon:

It does if you count the lard in the beans....

user-pic

@squinko:

I so miss Bob Evans -- the best sausage ever and have to get some every time I travel back east.

user-pic

Why wouldn't Taco Bell just sell, y'know, breakfast tacos for breakfast, like every other Mexican food place?

user-pic

@John: If the "bacon" was real, I'd be surprised...it tasted like Bacos.

user-pic

@TinkishDelight: Taco Bell has a tendency to make any morning shitty.

user-pic

@Smashville: Funny, I found them to have much less flavor than Bacos. Might be the same flavorless bacon they use at Burger King (last time I cheated on my diet I caved to that craving and was disappointed I wasted the cheat on bacon that tasted like paper).

user-pic

@Megladon: Yeah, cause there's lots of bacon in Mexican food. How about instead of Jimmy Dean they try chorizo? I'll stick with Filiberto's or Del Taco for mexican breakfasts... Taco Bell's 'mexican' food is becoming less and less mexican.

user-pic

@squinko:

You obviously haven't tried Tennessee Pride (extra mild) or Wamplers. Hard to find , but if you die ,it's on the menu in heaven. It's a Tennessee thing

Bob Evans is good , but not in the same league.

user-pic

@TVGenius: Chorizo is awesome. But Taco Bell is about as Mexican as pineapple pizza is Italian.

user-pic

The eggs come from real chickens.. The milk comes from real cows... The sausage is from Jimmy Deen..

AHH!

Heh.. oh that Bill Engvall.

user-pic

@RecordStoreToughGuy_IsTakingItBack: I tried chorizo that I got at the Latino market. It tasted good but it was soooo greasy. It put off so much fat I was able to make gravy!

Not something I can eat every day. I love that market though because they have stuff from all over. I can get plantains there, and Turkish Delight. Although I went in on Saturday and they didn't have my Rose flavored TD, only the pistachio (yuk). WAAAH! :(

user-pic

I wish they would do the Extreme Nachos again. I've never gotten over those.

user-pic

Wasn't aware that breakfast sausage was considered Americanized Mexican food.

user-pic

Mucho Nachos at breakfast time FTW!

user-pic

Ugh, the thought of starting off my day with Taco Bell is foul. Besides, they should just stick with their usual bagged and preserved stuff and not stray too much from the norm.

user-pic

I'm not it is a good idea for them to be porking the tacos with sausage.

user-pic

"When Hell is full, Jimmy Dean Sausage will walk the Earth."

Truly a disgusting idea, Taco Bell Focus Group Overlords. I'd rather eat uncooked chorizo.

user-pic

@longtimegeek: when i worked there [late 90's] it was vegetable shortening in the beans. dunno if that's changed one way or the other.

user-pic

@squinko: i was stunned to move to a pork producing state and discover about 50 kinds of sausage available in the grocery store, some of it from farms less than 20 miles away.
and cheap!

soooooooo much better than jimmy deans or any other brand.

user-pic

"breakfasty brands like Seattle's Best, Dole, and Cinnabon"

Awesome, I no longer have to eat foods that will blow my rectum from my colon.

Remember, in Demolition Man (1993), that Taco Bell won the Franchise Wars. Prepare. Prepare now!

user-pic

@ChuckECheese:That's good to know, thanks!

user-pic

@MightyDwarf56: Back in the day I would munch on the breakfast burrito with potatoes and white gravy at the Bell .. so good!

user-pic

So Taco Bell wants to give me diarrhea first thing in the morning?

Thanks, TB. You've always been there for me when I needed an excuse to call into work.

user-pic

I remember Taco Bell's breakfast menu in the mid-90's and loved the Breakfast Quasadilla...

But it still doesn't hold a candle to McDonald's original Breakfast Burritos. Yum.

user-pic

I ate Taco Bell breakfast in Toledo about a year or 2 ago (Toledo is apparently a big test market for many things) and I thought it was good! I was sad to see it didn't make it out of the test phase, but maybe it's not dead as I thought?

user-pic

I had taco bell breakfast in the 90's and I loved it. I preferred it to the fast food places that serve breakfast today. I hope they bring this back nationwide!

user-pic

@GitEmSteveDave_DeathPanelist: The 'plump' is delectable-- especially the way he sort of debates offering it up-- but it's nothing without the 'Scotch' qualifier. Regular plump girls are just fat but early... but Scotch plump girls are just right.
