KFC On Oprah: Everybody Gets A Chicken! Everybody Gets A Chicken!

11416 views

Oprah is promoting KFC's grilled chicken, and has hooked the entire Internet up with a coupon for a free grilled chicken meal.

The coupon can only be downloaded until 10:59 PM Eastern time tomorrow, so hurry. It can be used any day from now until May 15—except May 10, Mother's Day. Because what kind of cheap bastard uses a free meal coupon to take their mother out to dinner on Mother's Day?

Link is full of fail.

user-pic

Even Oprah is feeling the recession. First she was giving away cars, now chicken.

There's got to be a tasteless joke in there somewhere, but I'll leave it to sicker minds.

user-pic

Tried it several times, no joy.

Wonder if KFC's franchisees are better at accepting coupons than Subway's were.

user-pic

Corpulent Oprah hasn't missed too many chicken meals of late.

user-pic

I HATE KFC...but fuck it, free food.

user-pic

YAY! I could login today with Firefox! YAY!

FYI page and DL link working fine now.

I have the coupon on Megaupload if you need it:

[www.megaupload.com]

(aint I a nice guy?)

And KFC seems to have done this promotion smartER than others. A coupon good for the next 10 days (except 1). No crowds or problems - except maybe on last day?

NOW - will all KFCs honor it? Are they all corporate owned?

user-pic

i already printed out 3! i don't know what everyone is complaining about

user-pic

"Because what kind of cheap bastard uses a free meal coupon to take their mother out to dinner on Mother's Day?"

The local ads I got in the mail today included a Mother's Day only promotion for Popeye's!

user-pic

I had no issue. Firefox and IE worked just fine. Maybe it's becasue I'm in the Chicago area and the Oprah site gets here first in the tubes...

user-pic

Thanks, Oprah. Now if you could just stop lying to the world about vaccinations, you'd be an alright lady.

user-pic

Wait... how will they know if it was printed from said site? Am I missing something?

user-pic

I've tried twice and no go from here. Oh well. I'd probably just stick it in my pocket, forget about it and find it too late.

user-pic

Now it is just taking you to a PDF of the coupon! Heading out now to try it. I do not have much hope.

[www.oprah.com]

user-pic

You'd best use these up tonight. Oprah offering that PDF means that they'll likely pull the offer since it opens up a whole bunch of potential easy repeat visits instead of the slightly annoying way they made you do it via coupons.com

user-pic

@Thaddeus:

Barcodes. Apparently many stores have been equipped with scanners just for this coupon.

user-pic

@bilups: It wasn't a static PDF when I tried to get it. It was a Web application that must have been getting hammered.

user-pic

@Thaddeus: Yeah, not sure how this works. For one, it says right on the coupon (and on Oprah's site) that it is only valid if printed from UnthinkKFC.com. It also says that mechanically reproduced coupons will not be accepted - methinks that my handy Epson printer is a mechanical reproduction device.

OH WAIT! There is nothing to say that a hand-drawn representation of the coupon will not be accepted. Where's the guy that draws spiders?

user-pic

@trujunglist: It certainly appears that Oprah endorsed this with KFC's knowledge. If you go to the UnthinkKFC.com site, it links back to Oprah's site.

user-pic

@HalOfBorg: Megaupload: no.

The coupons have unique barcodes. You can't distribute copies. While the stores can't tell when you purchase, you're going to make the franchisees eat the cost when corporate won't reimburse them for the duplicates. Please don't ruin it for them or for us, the customers, when KFC sees shit like that and cancels all the coupons.

user-pic

@trujunglist: The PDF appears to have the one code. This... was not well thought out.

user-pic

@tripnman: Well the PDF let me print two, so we will see if they work...

user-pic

@bilups: I haven't had KFC in years but I think I'll take this opportunity to try the grilled stuff.

I mean it can't be worse than their deep fried chicken, right.

user-pic

@Thaddeus: It could me generating that code based on kinda-sorta individually identifiable information like your current ip address or... um... stuff. So if you downloaded the pdf three times, it'd still have the same code since you downloaded it to the same address. Maybe?

(I'm too lazy to test it and find out, and besides I don't eat chicken so I have no compelling interest. But mostly just the laziness.)

user-pic

@ribex: I DLd the coupon 3 times, each time codes appeared identical. Maybe tied to IP number?

user-pic

@greyer: Good thinking! I'll try again when I get home from work and am on a different IP.

user-pic

I guess the economy has finally hit Harpo productions, forcing Opera to start pushing KFC.

The money just isn't good enough to give a shout out to Ezell's anymore, Oprah?

[www.ezellschicken.com]

user-pic

Grrrr! Not too long ago, I unknowingly filled out a pledge online to never eat at KFC again!!! Oh well. Sorry Oprah.

user-pic

I used two of these tonight at two different KFC's near my house. The first one closest to me had people in line with stacks of these. Using the coupon was no problem, but I swear the two pieces of chicken they gave me were so small they may have come from a pigeon. At the second run, I just ordered the mean without mentioning the coupon until I got to the window. Portions much better, but the girl at the window was a real bitch about it. She started to take my mean in back again, and I stopped her and said not to take the meal where I can't see it... I just saw the movie Waiting and just didn't want to risk it.

user-pic

@trujunglist: The whole offer was done in conjunction with the Oprah show. That's why the offer exists.

user-pic

That's interesting. I saw a link somewhere earlier today (honestly can't remember where) for this deal, sans Oprah.

[www.unthinkkfc.com]

It's directly through the KFC site, but when you click to print the coupon, you're taken to another site that asks you to download software first to do so, which always sounds fishy to me.

user-pic

@ribex: All the barcodes are the same. I know coupons.com does use unique barcodes but this coupon does not have one of those.

user-pic

@ribex:

No they don't-- I downloaded mine from the unthink website before reading these comments, and it looks IDENTICAL to the one on megaupload HalOfBorg put up. Same Bar Code number and everything.

user-pic

@greyer: They're all the same. I guess they're just going on the honor system.

user-pic

@ecwis: Yep. Just tired on a different IP... all the same.

user-pic

@Desk_hack: I'm not a big fan of install this for free food. But I did see the megaupload link someone made and I'm going for that.

user-pic

@kwsventures: And you have graduated with a ''douchebaggery'' degree.

user-pic

@BigFoot_Pete
KFC's food is a tasteless joke. Or something.

Who cares? I downloaded the permitted four copies.

user-pic

@MissPiss:
Wouldn't this be better than not eating there at all?

user-pic

@xredgambit:
You can just download a PDF posted by Bill Ware above and bypass the spyware.

user-pic

I would avoid installing the coupons.com printer software: [www.benedelman.org]

Use the pdf from Oprah's website.

user-pic

I was able to use 2 tonight at the Richfield, Minnesota KFC. They were really nice about it, took them cheerfully. I asked if I could upgrade to white meat for an extra charge, and they just gave us the breasts. So unlike another Minnesota chicken venue...

user-pic

No problem at my KFC & generous portions. Asked for and got a breast (more meat!) and wing on all 3 orders.

No problem printing coupons from this pdf: [media.oprah.com]

KFC was packed at 6pm but only 1 other person had a coupon.

user-pic

Wouldn't even print.
Said I printed it already.
I didn't.
Sucks.

user-pic

@bigroblee: Stacks of them? Talk about ruining it for everybody. I wonder if they would even accept those since it says one per customer per visit.

user-pic

I got my chicken. Went inside where they were too busy to even check the barcodes on them.

I prefer the extra crispy recipe better. But I had dinner for free. I'm down with that.

user-pic

@weaselbit:
I got that message also, but got to HalofBorg's link for the PDF version.

user-pic

Site says my printer (brand new Canon MP480) is not supported after I download the software. Thanks to everyone putting the file up.
