Countrywide Home Loans Wins Consumerist's Worst Company In America Contest
Duhn duhn da duhn! Envelope please... yes, America has voted and... the Worst Company in America award goes to.... Countrywide Home Loans (now owned by Bank of America)! The final vote was...
...6098 to 4826, a solid trouncing of Comcast, which had been favored to win by many commenters. After 67 rounds and five months of fierce battling, Countrywide climbed to the top of the poop pile and affirmed its well-deserved status as the absolute nadir of capitalism. It looks like in the end, we all decided that the destruction of a giant chunk of the American economy by greed and fraud was more reprehensible than an unsatisfactory internet experience.
The Lucky Golden Shit award will get shipped to Angelo "Golden Boy" Mozilo, former Countrywide CEO, who steered the ship of financial doom from its inception to the height of its unfettered raping of the American Dream, just as soon as we find a good mailing address for him. The receipt for the Lucky Golden Ship will get mailed to Bank of America CEO Kenneth D. Lewis, along with a certificate of completion.
Congratulations to our top 10 runners up
Comcast
Walmart
Bank of America
American Airlines
Capital One
Diebold
Exxon
United Health Care
Blue Cross Blue Shield
Microsoft
You're champions, all of you. Better luck next year.
This is a test using rich text formatting and html links. It's the generic "company" ad that should appear on all posts with the Company category if they don't have an ad attached to a specific company.

@MercuryPDX: Golden plunger for the surely clogged golden toilet. That way, they'll all be connected forever. The end.
6100 to 4800 is only a difference of 1300 votes or 11% of total voters...
Countrywide: Their business model ruined their company and eventually drove them out of business, although they were acquired by BoA.
Comcast: Their business model actually keeps them in business, but the populous hates them so much they actually put them up against a company who basically wrote itself out of business and helped take out a large chuck of Americas "wealth" and economy.
Quite honestly I think it shows Comcast just how bad they are perceived by the public.
@blue_duck: Actually, that was John Edward(no s).
John Edward is the smarmy psychic. John Edwards is the smarmy politician.
I'm pretty mad that Countrywide won simply because the contest is such a great idea, and the thought of some executive receiving a golden shit in the mail is just perfection. Granted, they were a shitty company, but Comcast is worse and who is going to get the award now? Some douche at BofA? It's kind of a hollow statement to send an insult at someone who had nothing to do with why you're insulting him.
@pigbearpug: Read the posting again. The award is going to be mailed to the ex-CEO. BofA will simply receive a certificate of completion.
@pigbearpug: Mozillo is still at CW, I think he's at one of the Simi Valley-area offices.
He still deserves it, with the stock dumping, economy pillaging, and general shadiness he promotes.
@pigbearpug: I can't believe you think Comcast deserves it more. Personally I don't think they even should have made the top 10. I can think of many reasons why the rest of the 8 and others not in the top 10 have done more actual damage than Comcast's shitty service/support (and yes, I have dealt with them).
@linus: ... but the economy IS in peril, partially because of Countrywide, which rigged the poll, which got them the award, which... ah, screw it. Anyway, isn't that the point of giving them the award?
@Pro-Pain: Eh, check back for the Consumerist Cold Hard Worst Company In America Power Rankings, sponsored by Coors Light.
@Ein2015: Hmm...Consumerist probably has the CEO's email. Maybe someone (or a few hundred people) could send him an email of congratulations on his company's achievement.
But then again, his email address is probably a Countrywide address and since he is gone as CEO, it probably got deleted.
A valid shipping address? LOL and just what glorious company are you planning on using? UPS? FedEx? DHL? USPS? Come on guys, geez if you really want it to get there, hand deliver it!! With what we know about the 'shipping' companies, I wouldn't give ya a plugged nickel bet on it making there LMAO!!!
@desterion: countrywide helped ruin the economy. comcast provides a crappy service. i'd say countrywide deserves the coveted spot more.

Well...duh.
