Viewers Expect Tom Brokaw, Get Hard-Core Porn

Don’t you hate it when you’re watching TV and you expect a health program hosted by Tom Brokaw and instead you get a “nature program.” And by nature program we mean porn. From Yahoo!:

The incident on KPPX-TV Monday night prompted a flood of calls to local news media outlets and cable provider Cox Communications, including one from Chandler resident Brenda Schodt, who said she was shocked to look up and see graphic sex acts on her television screen.

“Maybe five or 10 minutes into the show there was no volume,” Schodt said. “I thought it was the TV, but when I looked up, there were these images.”

Cox spokeswoman Andrea Katsenes said that the unexpected clips were a “source issue” with the broadcaster.

ION Television, which operates KPPX, called the problem “an act of human sabotage” at its station.

KPPX is a local Phoenix-area station. Whoops. Which is worse: Tom Brokaw in your porn or porn in your Tom Brokaw?—MEGHANN MARCO

Can I get THAT in my “Greatest Generation” box set?

But how many people have tuned to the porn channel and have accidentally gotten Tom Brokaw? (That would pretty disappointing, I’d think).

  5. Michael Bauser says:

ION Television is the “network” that used to be Pax, the “family friendly network.” Which just makes the “human sabotage” angle weirder (or funnier, depending on how you look at it). Clearly, they haven’t been screening their employees well enough to filter out the porn fiends.

I know a guy who used to work in cable TV for years. He claims when he was at the “head end” (the signal origination site where all the various signals are actually transmitted out over the cable system), the guys would occasionally, just for fun, swap a couple of inputs around – say, the pay-per-view porn and CNN – just for a few seconds, then switch it back. Heh…

    That would rock.
