As Apple continues on its daunting task of improving Apple Maps’ reputation, the company is looking to the streets. Specifically, it’s trying out that whole Street View thing Google has been doing, sending out vehicles equipped with cameras to snap photos of the world’s highways and byways.
Because it’s not the easiest thing to drive around town with cameras strapped all over a car and not arouse some kind of attention, a new rumor has Apple embarking on its own street view mission, similar to the feature on Google Maps.
Apple’s pride is still likely stinging just a bit from the Great Map Debacle Of 2012, but nevertheless, a new version of Google Maps is now available as an app for iPhone users on iOS 6. Google announced yesterday that the revised map had finally been approved by Apple and will now be listed in the company’s app store. [More]
