Pancakes and waffles with a fruit flavor are fun and delicious, but what isn’t fun and delicious is when your breakfast comes with a side of Salmonella. Salmonella. Two companies — supermarket chain Publix, and Stonewall Kitchen — have discovered that the milk in their mixes tested positive for the pathogen, and are recalling the products recalling their products as a precaution. None of the finished products have tested positive for Salmonella, and the companies say there are no reported illnesses.

Salmonella is an illness that most healthy people will recever from without much of a problem, suffering from diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps for a short period. Children, the elderly, and anyone else with a compromised immune system can suffer severe complications of the disease, which can include arthritis, aneurysms, or complications involving the heart.

Publix announced that the only affected products were sold at the chain’s stores in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina, Tennessee, and North Carolina. Potentially affected mix flavors are Banana-Flavored Chocolate Chip, Pumpkin, and Blueberry.
