Rumor Has It: Instagram Testing Live Video Feature

Remember the days when social media apps were all totally different? Neither do we. To that end, there are some rumors floating around that Instagram is taking a page from parent company Facebook’s playbook with tests of a new live video feature.

A report on a Russian news site T Journal shows the live feature embedded within Instagram’s recently-launched “Stories” function, The Verge reports, emblazoned with a “LIVE” banner.

There’s also a user interface for accessing the live feature with a big red button proclaiming, “Go Insta!”

Instagram declined to comment to The Verge, but it wouldn’t be a huge leap of the imagination to think it could happen: the rumor mill has been steadily churning for more than a year with gossip that Instagram would eventually add live video.

It makes sense from a revenue standpoint as well, as advertisers would likely be willing to pay for their brands to appear in a dedicated live video area within the app.
