Google Flights Will Now Alert Users When Airfares Are About To Expire

When you spot an enticing airfare online, it can be hard to walk away from it, only to find when you return even just a day later that the price has skyrocketed. Google Flights is attempting to help travelers avoid that from happening with a new system that notifies them when a good deal on airfare is about to disappear.

Some flight apps and booking sites might let users know whether airfares are expected to fluctuate, but Google Flights will notify folks when a particular price is going to expire, triggering a fare increase.

“After selecting a specific flight, a notification may appear letting you know when the current fare is expected to expire and how much you can save if you book now,” Google explains, giving the example of a flight to San Diego that will likely cost more in eight hours, saving a traveler $87 if they book before then.

If you’re not ready to book at that moment, you can instead track the flight or route and get notifications via email alerting you when prices are expected to change.

The new fare expiration and expected price jump notifications features will be rolling out over the coming weeks everywhere Google Flights is available, the company says, adding that users will “also continue to receive updates when prices actually do increase or decrease significantly for tracked flights.”
