Yelp Enters Delivery Realm With $134M Purchase Of Eat24

Not only can you make reservations at thousands of restaurants through Yelp, soon you’ll be able to order delivery. The latest expansion for the review site comes after it agreed to purchase delivery site Eat24 for $134 million.

MarketWatch reports that the cash and stock deal gives Yelp delivery and takeout access to 20,000 restaurants in more than 1,500 cities nationwide.

With the transaction, Yelp plans to increase engagement and expand Eat24’s offerings to the one million U.S. restaurants currently listed on the site.

Yelp chief executive Jeremy Stoppelman says the purchase is an important step for the company in providing customers the ability to interact directly with food-ordering websites.

“As more food ordering transactions move online, further integrating Eat24 will enhance our user experience with an easy-to-use product and service that allows our large consumer audience to transact directly with businesses,” Stoppelman says. “Eat24 has developed a great solution and unique service that has already added great value to the Yelp Platform. With this acquisition, we gain more tools and expertise to help engage our users from discovery through transaction in a key vertical for Yelp.”

News of Eat24’s purchase comes just a day after ride-sharing company Sidecar announced a partnership between the two companies had already gone well. It’s unclear whether or not Yelp with continue the partnership with Sidecar.
