Car Dealership Can’t Believe It’s Giving Away $420K After The Seahawks Shut Out The Giants

When there’s a large amount of cash on the line, it’s probably best to expect that yes, the worst thing could happen. In the case of a Seattle car dealership, the worst thing turned out to be the Seahawks shutting out the Giants last night with a final score of 23-0. See, because the dealer promised to split $420,000 between 12 winners if that happened.

It sounds like the dealership’s owners really didn’t think it could happen, after running a promotion last week promising to split $420,000 equally if the Giants ended up scoreless, reports ESPN.com.

“This is crazy,” said one of the owners of the dealership. “We never expected that we’d actually be giving away the money.”

The dealership had predicted a 24-0 score in the promo, so the good news is it was only off by half a point. And it also bought insurance to back the promo, which cost it $7,000.

The contest had to be open to anyone, but those entrants who also bought a car between last Wednesday and Saturday got 100 entries. Only 12 people entered who didn’t buy a car, so they each got a single entry, while 20 people bought cars during the promo.

The dealership is unsure how it’ll draw the 12 lucky winners, who will each get $35,000. Because again, no one really expected this to happen.

“We’re a car dealership, we’re not used to doing something like this,” the owner explained. No time like the present to learn, eh?
