Seattle Law Enforcement Going On Doritos Duty At This Year’s Pot Fest

Now that marijuana is legal in the state of Washington, the role of police at Seattle’s yearly Hempfest is changing just a teeny bit. While in the past, enforcing laws against pot smoking were already a low priority, police will be protecting and serving — Doritos. They’ll be serving chips. The munchies situation must be dire at this festival.

According to KIRO 7 News, a group of officers will be passing out the tortilla chips for festival goers to partake in. But not just to alleviate those munchies — there will be stickers on the bags that explain the ins and outs of the new marijuana law.

“We wanted to make sure we could share information, share our expectations, and do it in a way that would resonate,” a Seattle police spokesman told LATimes.com.

“We’re putting out content that people can relate to,” he added of the joint venture with PepsiCo, Doritos’ parent. “It’s produced by police, but it’s written for the public. The idea is we want to engage the community that we serve.”

Taxpayers won’t be on the line for the price of all those chips, either — the 1,000 bags of chips are paid for by the Seattle Police Foundation, a private organization.
