Ready Or Not, Here Comes The Krispy Kreme Sloppy Joe Sandwich

Every time we think the fast food industry has outdone itself, that it’s introduced the pinnacle of calorie-laden, “Yes, they really did put those things together into one menu item,” we’re wrong. Something else always comes down the line to claim the throne. Introducing the latest usurper: The Krispy Kreme Sloppy Joe.

For those who are unfamiliar, a Sloppy Joe sandwich is a sloppy (but not made of Joes, one should hope) pile of ground beef, onions, tomato sauce and other ingredients, plopped onto the bun or bread of its creator’s choice. A Krispy Kreme doughnut is, well, it’s a doughnut.

And in the case of this new concoction introduced by an enterprising chef at the San Diego County Fair (via KTAR.com), the doughnut is the bun, and it is a Krispy Kreme doughnut, and it is blowing our darn minds. It’s unclear, however, whether or not the item will actually be added to any Krispy Kreme menus, or if it’s just a one-off for the fair.

Wherever you are, Dunkin’ Donut’s bacon doughnut sandwich, we hope you’re not crying yourself to sleep. Because you’ve got some serious competition in the calorie-laden novelty sandwich category, and that can’t be a great feeling.
