Microwave Popcorn Not So Convenient Anymore Compared To Just Opening A Bag

You know how when you have to walk aaaalll the way over to the microwave and stick a bag of popcorn in it, and then press aaaaalll those buttons and wait for aaaaaalll those slow minutes to tick by until your snack is ready? It’s the worst, right? So inconvenient, which is apparently why premade popcorn is gaining on microwave popcorn.

Yes, we’re all too lazy to microwave our own popcorn — forget about popping it on the stove! — says AdAge. We’ve had a long run of fun with microwave popcorn, since 1946 when the snack was one of the first things cooked up in the appliance.

The pre-popped segment is gaining in popularity because it’s the height of convenience, as AdAge points to the example of Orville Redenbacher’s, long a stalwart in the microwave arena. It’s pushing bagged popcorn more and more these days, however.

“Microwave popcorn at its inception was all about convenience, having only to wait three minutes to get warm, delicious popcorn,” says Orville’s brand director. But “as times have changed, the definition of convenience has changed.”

Meaning, no one has to open a box, then a wrapper, and then wait. Because that is just too much work. And also? You could burn it. Better to put yourself in the hands of the experts.
