It was nary a few months ago when Michael Lawder, the head of customer service at Electronic Arts, was touting the company’s new call centers in Texas and Ireland as part of its effort to improve the customer experience. What does it say about the Worst Company In America 2013‘s dedication to that plan when it’s reportedly started laying off staff at the Galway customer service center?
The Journal in Ireland is rumbling about EA’s decision to cut a bunch of positions at the Galway center, a scant seven months after the company announced 300 new jobs there. There were already 200 staff members employed there last September when EA announced the expansion.
According to the paper, staff at the quality department were told that the axe would be falling soon. A spokesperson told The Journal that EA is “sharpening its focus to provide games for new platforms and mobile.” Which, apparently means cutting staff, as it did in Montreal recently as well.
Dedication to customer service is a lot harder to carry out when there aren’t actual people dealing with those upset, frustrated and otherwise ticked off customers.
