There’s nothing like a good deal to get our Consumerist readers excited while shopping. The only problem with one recent offering at Target? Going back in time isn’t a viable option, even if you really want a free movie downlad with purchase of DVD-Rs.

Consumerist reader Scott used our mobile tipster app to submit a deal he found that is past its prime by about two years, and still found it irresistible — for our sake.

I found these DVD-Rs at Target, was excited about the promo sticker, realized what it said, put them back, thought about it for a sec, then decided to pick ’em back up so I could send this to you.

So thoughtful! We asked Scott if he purchased the DVD-Rs as it seems, even if he can’t hop in a Delorean and go back to before December 31, 2011 and the demise of that Sony deal, and he says he did because he needed them anyway.

He added, “Who knew? Maybe (just maybe) I could still get the free download. I couldn’t. Oh well.”
