AT&T Uses My Front Yard As A Parking Lot

TJ says only the truck closer to the street is supposed to be parked there. You can see some of the damage already done to his lawn.

For the past few weeks, AT&T workers have been installing a new U-Verse box next to Consumerist reader TJ’s house. And while the company does have an easement that allows for one truck to pull up on the grass, he says they are ruining his lawn and getting him in trouble with the city.

According to TJ, the easement only allows for the one vehicle, so that second truck — the one farther from the street — is completely on his property.

In addition to making a mess of his lawn, TJ says one of the trucks ripped out a sapling he had just planted. Adding insult to injury, he claims the company won’t pay to replace the sapling because it considers the damage “wear and tear.”

He says that the AT&T drivers provided him with an e-mail address but that his complaint was bounced back to him.

“They won’t even maintain the weeds there which the city complained to me about this year,” TJ tells Consumerist.

We’ll be sending this off to a rep for AT&T in the hopes that they might be willing to provide their drivers with a lesson on respecting customers’ property.

UPDATE: After the story was posted, TJ received a visit from reps for AT&T. According to TJ, they confirmed that only one truck should have been using the easement and promised to deal with both the weed issue and the damaged sapling.
