A Denver-area family bought a refurbished Nintendo 3DS as a special Christmas gift for their 5-year-old son, but instead got an educational toy. That is to say that the device had been pre-loaded with porn by its previous owner. Now the family is upset and describe the youngster as “traumatized.”

The 3DS came from GameStop and was supposedly refurbished. Instead, nine pornographic pictures remained in its library. “You can’t unsee this. He’s 5 years old,” the child’s father told KUSA news. While Gamestop could provide a new device, they can’t erase his son’s brain.

So how did this happen? In a statement to the TV station, Gamestop explained:

We have a rigorous quality control process in place to ensure that existing content is removed from all devices before they are re-sold. Out of millions of transactions each year, ones like this happen very rarely. Our number one priority is to make this right for our customer.

They have been trying: they gave the family a replacement device that’s brand-new and porn-free, along with some games.
