Finding A Gun In A Donated Library Book Is Okay When It’s A Cool Antique One

Valparaiso Police Department

Discovering a gun somewhere you don’t expect to see one? Scary. Finding a historic-looking old-timey cool gun hidden inside a hollowed out book? Awesome. A library employee at a branch in Valparaiso, Ind. made the discovery last week after opening up the book, which had been donated to the library’s collection.

According to police, the book Outerbridge Reach had a little spot carved out of its pages to hold the gold, wooden-handled gun, reports the NWITimes.com.

“Somebody just opened it up and said, ‘Oh my,’ ” said the  assistant library director.

Oh my, my indeed. The library called the cops and reported the find. It’s impossible to say who dropped the book off because the library accepts thousands of donations each month and records aren’t kept of those gifts.

So far police can only say the gun hadn’t been stolen and will hold it for evidence.

Oddly enough, this isn’t even the first time a gun has been found in a donated library book at that same branch. The library’s assistant director says a similar incident went down sometime before she joined the staff 12 years ago.

Is a book a common place to hide a gun and then forget about it, or what?
